From Russia With Love
By davidjeffers | July 10, 2008
Sean Connery was by far the best James Bond 007 and one of his best movies was “From Russia with Love. Now of course it had a hokey plotline in it and crossed the line often with sexual innuendos, but as far as 007 movies go, it was memorable.
The latest hokey plotline coming out of Russia is its threat against the US if America deploys a missile defense shield system, virtually in Russia’s backyard. Tuesday the Associated Press reported that Russia’s foreign ministry warned “that Moscow would be forced to take undefined military measures if the missile shield was deployed, a response which dismayed Washington.”
The very next day Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said “We will not be hysterical about this but we will think of retaliatory steps…we are extremely upset by this situation.”
The United States has faced Russian bellicose threats in the past. On Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev said to a group of Western diplomats: “About the capitalist states, it doesn’t depend on you whether or not we exist. If you don’t like us. Don’t accept our invitations, and don’t invite us to come to see you. Whether you like it or not. History is on our side. We will bury you!”
So how’d that work out for you Nikki?
The last time America looked at a missile defense system was during the Reagan administration and its Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI), disparagingly labeled as “Star Wars.” Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev tried to bluff and bluster his way with President Reagan; I still remember how proud I was of my President the day he walked out on Gorbachev in Reykjavik during arms control talks.
United States 2, Russia 0.
Now we have the current Russian government, while still negotiating, attempting to pressure us from defending our national interests overseas and our friends.
Russia has nothing to fear from our missile defense system; we are trying to protect ourselves from Iran’s belligerency and certain nuclear attack should they get the bomb. After today’s missile test by Iran the need for this protection has never been greater.
We have Russia to thank for Iran’s boldness because the Russians have sold the Iranians the finest air defense system money can buy. Russia has opposed strong economic sanctions against Iran of the sort that could have actually brought Iran to its knees.
So while Russia and the majority of the Western world has been sending mixed signals to Iran, Iranian President Madman Iwantmyownjihad continues to saber rattle and pursue nuclear weapons.
Had the Soviet Un…um, er…Russia been our true friends they would have come alongside us and stood side by side against nuclear proliferation.
Appreciate the love Russia!

I have an idea. Let’s say we find Russian materials on the weapon that destroyed one of our cities, and we can prove it. Why not send 50-100 messages of Love to the USSR carrying ENRICHED PLUTONIUM in a long range missle?
