Truth Need Not Apply
By davidjeffers | June 5, 2008
House Democrats have passed a bill to stifle the good news that we’re winning in Iraq. They are so invested in losing that they apparently fear a popular backlash against them from victory.
The above paragraph is from an Investor’s Business Daily editorial dated May 23, 2008 titled “Safe From Truth.” Please go read that editorial first and then we’ll proceed…Glad you came back! Pretty upsetting isn’t it?
While the Talon Blog is a function of Eagles Up and is a non-partisan organization, it would do good to look at Principle #2 that “fundamental to Eagles Up mission”:
America is at war with a brutal, butchering, Islamic enemy. Victory is the only option in the current war in Iraq and around the world. Political surrender is not an option. We reject the theory of supporting the troops but not the war…political ambiguous games during war is treasonous.
Now I had to do a little searching but check out this lovely little nugget the Rep. Hodes’ amendment includes:
SEC. 1071 PROHIBITIONS RELATING TO PROPAGANDA(c) Definition.–For purposes of this section, the term “propaganda” means any form of communication in support of national objectives designed to influence the opinions, emotions, attitudes, or behavior of the people of the United States in order to benefit the sponsor, either directly or indirectly.
Here’s a little snippet from Rep. Hodes’ speech introducing his amendment on the house floor:
In fact, one analyst apparently referred to the efforts by the Pentagon as brainwashing. A report conducted by media watchdog Media Matters showed that from January 2002 these military analysts, many of whom have ties to the defense industry, appeared on network and cable news stations nearly 4,500 times. That’s right, 4,500 instances. Imagine the millions of people who heard those impressions 4,500 times.
Mr. Hodes went on to say that lying by the Defense Department should not be allowed. The passage of this amendment was accomplished by voice vote. That means there is no record of who supported this amendment.Since this has already passed the House, our fight must be won in the Senate. We must demand the Senate reject this treasonous amendment to our defense appropriations bill and President Bush must promise to veto the bill if this bill reaches his desk with this amendment. Please call your Senators and voice your outrage of the Amendment #56 and ask them to oppose this amendment. Also, call your US Representative to voice your opposition to what the House has done.Remember, it’s up to us. My late son Sergeant Eddie Jeffers wrote this in his article “Hope Rides Alone”:
Why are we so obsessed with the bad news? Why will people stop at nothing to be against this war, no matter how much evidence of the good we’ve done is thrown in their face? When is the last time CNN or MSNBC or CBS reported the opening of schools and hospitals in Iraq? Or the leaders of terror cells being detained or killed? It’s all happening, but people will not let up their hatred of President Bush. They will ignore the good news, because it just might show people that Bush was right. Why would Democrats want to control the news coming out of Iraq when they say they support the troops? I’ll leave you with some quotes:
“I believe … that this war is lost, and this surge is not accomplishing anything, as is shown by the extreme violence in Iraq this week.” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev) April 19, 2007“The purpose of the surge was to create a secure time for the government of Iraq to make the political change to bring reconciliation to Iraq. They have not done that.” Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, February 2007“We cannot win this militarily. Our tactics themselves keep us from winning,” Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa) commenting on the Iraq War.
